A talented, detail-oriented orthodontist, as well as an excellent listener and communicator, Dr. Joiner makes it his priority that each patient has a great experience in his office and achieves their desired orthodontic results.
Background & Education
Whether he’s helping a young child who needs an especially caring, gentle touch, or an adult who wants to know every detail of their treatment, Dr. Joiner does whatever it takes to meet the needs of that patient.
Dr. Joiner is proud to be a third-generation Santa Cruzan! He attended schools in Aptos and graduated from Aptos High School before attending Cabrillo College, then received a Bachelor’s degree at Baylor University in Texas. After receiving a Master’s degree in Biology, Dr. Joiner graduated with a D.D.S. degree from UCLA Dental School. He received his specialty certificate in Orthodontics after a two-year residency at University of California at San Francisco, at that time considered one of the three finest orthodontic programs in the country.
After associating for a year in another orthodontic office, Dr. Joiner realized there was a place in Santa Cruz for a new, state-of-the-art orthodontic practice, where he could deliver orthodontic excellence in a caring, fun atmosphere. He opened his own practice in 1986 and has enjoyed the process of keeping it “state-of-the-art.” With the help of his extraordinary staff, Dr. Joiner’s office earns its reputation for creating “Santa Cruz’s brightest smiles!”
Outside the Office
Dr. Joiner and his wife Roberta now reside very close to where his grandparents operated a chicken hatchery in Happy Valley. They have a sassy Portuguese Water Dog named Lola. They enjoy long walks on the beach and are seasoned scuba-divers!
In addition to Dr. Joiner’s passion for orthodontics and his patients, he is a nature lover and counts skiing, golfing, woodworking, and backpacking in the Sierras among his hobbies. Over the years, he has supported several dozen local sports teams, as well as youth-oriented arts activities. Dr. Joiner is quite musical, currently playing trombone in a local brass ensemble – though his patients know him better for his humming and whistling! He enjoys keeping up with his patients’ involvement in school athletics, arts programs and other extracurricular activities.
